Bounty of Summer

Our first big pick this week of our square foot garden. Lettuce, cilantro and strawberries. We've eaten a few strawberries, like 2 and 3 at a time. Another batch of lettuce ready to pick next week. Roma tomatoes are growing but not red yet and other 3 tomato plants have small tomatoes on them. No beans, onions or carrots yet.

Last Saturday I made a batch of marionberry jam. It is a berry found only here in Oregon, I believe. It's like a blackberry but has very few seeds and are sweet. I bought a flat of marionberries then froze them. Some got made into jam. I've not made jam in a few years. I had to throw out the pectin I'd hoarded from a few years ago. Not good! I plan on making at least 2 more batches of jam this year. NO HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP! :0)
Homemade tastes so much better than store bought jam, hands down!

This is my hydrangea bush in the side lawn, under our tree, planted in our old bathtub. Last year this bush didn't bloom much at all. I'm thinking it was because of a harsh winter. This year the blossoms are more pink than blue. I can see it out my kitchen window. I love it!

Blogging for a year!

My how the time has flown by! I just realized I've been blogging since July 8, 2009. I have had alot of fun blogging and meeting new friends over the past year. I've learned alot about blogging and computers this year. Thanks to all my friends who have frequented my blog and commented. I've travelled the world at my computer...to New Zealand, Japan and Canada and many states. Is there frequent computer mileage for that? It's fun to view others' opinions, photography and recipes. One blogger has got me started on a square foot garden this year. Another blogger friend has helped me become more organized. Many have been an encouragement in various ways! We've been good for each other!

So enjoy a piece of chocolate cake or cookie, a Pepsi, or a cup of tea...maybe iced tea if it's warm where you are! Celebrate! Thanks for making this past year a memorable one. Here's to more years of friendship across the computer waves!

Hummingbird Visit

This past week my daughter was outside working on her lavender wand. She saw some movement and looked up. A hummingbird was visiting one of our hanging flower baskets. She went back to weaving and behold in front of her, was the very same hummingbird. It looked right at her. At first she thought maybe it was going to attack her, but she sat still and hummingbird just looked for a short time then off it went into our big tree. She thought it was neat! An AAWWHH moment in a regular day, where she's at home, unemployed and a bit stressed. It was like God was giving her lift in her day!

The next day at work a customer that frequents the hardware store I work at bought an item. The previous day he'd indeed pointed out that he was weary. He seemed to be more weary this day....whole month at work had been hard on him. So I shared the hummingbird incident with him and he smiled. I told him to look for the happy moments in the day to make it better.

Reach out and share a moment of hope and happiness with someone you meet.
