Good Beginnings of 2015

We didn't venture out on new year's day. We actually slept in. Phil and I went to bed at least 1.5 hours before midnight. As I was looking at the clock before drew my blankets up around me, I was wondering if we would sleep through the THE HAPPY NEW YEAR noise. We did but our daughter did not. Apparently there was a loud boom that shook the house. Our neighbor a couple blocks away heard it. We didn't.  In the afternoon, we played Settlers of Catan. It was an annoying game this time. Sometimes the die roll just won't give the numbers you need to get resources so you can buy and trade and build.  This was Phil after the game, with the region of Catan after an earthquake hit and he was apprehended by the largest army card (for winning and  his wife and daughter were not amused!!!)

On Thurs I was using the trusty ol' Eureka vacuum in our bedroom. It was making awful noises. Megan said that she'd had trouble with it for awhile. I fiddled with it, got stuff out from around the beater bar. That didn't help. Still squealed and was loud. Sigh. So i knew it would need replaced eventually. We've had it for at least 20 years.

Fast forward to Friday. Phil said to look online Best Buy and see if they have a vacuum cleaner that I wanted. I found a Shark Navigator on sale, $20 off. Ok, we will get it while we are out that afternoon! Sweet!! Even better??  Phil won a nice sized Best Buy gift card at his Christmas work party. He bought it with the card!!! I wasn't even going to ask. I knew better. I am enjoying the vacuum. It sure sucked up alot of dirt from the living room on Sat. But that's for later.   I nearly bought one before Christmas. But waited. I've been wanting this type of vacuum for awhile. God knows our needs and it's fun to be surprised!!  We went to Trader Joe's after that, then got our movie tickets (courtesy of free Regal movie tickets he'd got months ago at his dentist's office). Sweet! Then we went to Costco and got a few things and diddled around since we had time to spare. We spied these cheese curds. Laughable!! Not sure how good garlic cheddar cheese curds are!! Regular cheese curds, also known as squeaky cheese, is good. Face Rock is an actual rock formation on the beach at Bandon, OR. I am glad they have a creamery again.
Our meal at Wendy's before the movie. I had a frosty instead of soda, which we shared. Then we went to see Night at the Museum. It was good!!!  A bit teariness at the end. Last time to see Robin Williams and Andy Rooney in a new movie.
On Sat at noon, we surprised L at a little party. He is getting visa work done soon. Just a nice send off for them. This was at our church. He didn't know about it. K set it up. It was a fun time and we had some nice visits with the people there, including some family.

I made a potato salad, since I knew there would be sandwiches. Only about a cup worth left. So I brought it home and Megan ate it later. It is always a hit!
Food table from another angle. Someone made macaroni and cheese. YUMMY too!
Our old couch,......last day! Another out with the OLD......
..................and IN with the "new to us" loveseat/sleeper!!! I used my NEW vacuum to clean it...which wasn't dirty at all. It's about two years old. Did some investigating underneath to see how all was. It's relatively ok! Tags say it was made in the USA!!! Megan's friend had it in her garage. It was her grandma's. But her grandma found one she liked better so she got rid of it. We got this one free!!! Gen's husband and dad and little boy came over with it Sat. mid afternoon. Then they loaded up the old couch in the trailer. Since they were going to the dump, I had Phil take other things that were too big for our outdoor garbage can. It was worth $25 to get rid of it all!!! Old couch was used before we had it and it really needed to go. We really like the new one already!!! I also vacuumed the carpet and wound up getting alot of dirt/fuzz out of it. Amazing how nice it looks!!!
Back burner pan has the last batch of applesauce of 2014. Cooking it while making our last Sat. lunch of the year.
I could not believe I forgot to drink out of my Spode Christmas mug this year! It didn't dawn on me til I was reading a friend's blog and some dishes reminded me of my mug!!!  The red mug to right is Megan's that she got for her 35th birthday, late Dec.  ****Speaking of Megan...good news!  She landed a job at the city library the last few days of 2014. She wound up working on Wed. A friend of her's said, "so you will have a W-2 for one day of work!!"  It's a part time job that is 2 days a week, for now. But we are so thankful that she's got a job, inside and something she's been wanting for awhile!! God is good!!  I will be back with photos of our Christmas gatherings. Our day  with kids and grandkids was better than Christmas day. But we have moved on and learned and know what not to do this next Christmas....but that's  another story for another time!!!  Take care and thanks for stopping in for a visit. I am thankful for all my readers, among whom I call friends!!! God bless!!!

I'm so glad Megan got a job with the library. I don't know how it is there, but here those 2 day jobs can turn into half-time and then into full-time. She just has to hang in there.

I love that you make applesauce. I love applesauce but have never tried to make my own.

What a way to start a new year - a new vaccuum and a new couch! It was nice to meet you on the other day, and I'll keep in touch. Maybe we can meet up one of my Friday's off. :)

Lot's of good news to end 2014 and begin 2015, Becky! I am happy for you and your family. My youngest son cleaned out the fireplace today and replaced a couple of light bulbs in my funny little electric fireplace so that it is warmly glowing again much to my delight! Now on to more chores : )

Happy to hear that the new year started out for your family with such wonderful blessings! Congrats to your daughter on her new job! I've always thought that working at a library would be a fun job:)
Finally, somehow I missed wishing your daughter and hubby a happy birthday in December--so please, if you will, pass these birthday wishes along to them.
